Una noche llena de sorpresas, donde 'The Artist' arrasó con los premios más importantes (Mejor Película, Mejor Director y Mejor Actor), que comenzó con una entretenida presentación de Billy Crystal y que premio tras premio, muchos favoritos terminaban siendo relegados. Entre lo destacado podemos mencionar que:
- 'Millenium' ganó el premio a Mejor Montaje. (Dejando fuera a 4 favoritos)
- 'Hugo' se llevó el galardón a Efectos Especiales. (Una sorpresa realmente)
- Christopher Plummer batió el record como actor de mayor edad en recibir una estatuilla. (82 años)
- Woody Allen ganó el premio por Guión Adaptado, pero fiel a su estilo, no estuvo presente en la Gala.
